Hierarchy principle: the importance of creating layers of information.

In the Information Age, it is easy to become overwhelmed with
sound bytes, intense graphics, and multimedia images. Adding
the principle of hierarchy to typography gives important information
a logical order and can create a more elegant and professional
style.
"The designer creates a visual
stratification of information; information is organized into
related clusters, that in turn are organized hierarchically.
By classifying and arranging information hierarchically, the
designer is able to create visual pathways through information
that allow the user to experience the environment in a systematic
way." (Mullet & Sanyo, 1995)
