Web-based fonts are typefaces specifically designed
for easier on-screen reading.

In the beginning
of the Internet, there were words, but not typefaces. Despite great
strides in technology, the only typographic constant on the Internet has
been Times (Mac) and Times New Roman (Windows). In the past it has been
only when the ink hits the paper that we have judged the effectiveness
of a typeface. This is becoming a very shortsighted view, because many
computer users spend their entire time in front of a monitor and seldom,
if ever, print a thing. It has become evident that this is not a correct
assumption. Web-based fonts are the solution because they are fonts that
are designed as screen fonts from the beginning, as opposed to printer
fonts that have been adapted for use on screen. The new on-screen fonts
are significantly sharper, clearer, and easier to read.
